Throughout our history, the Alston Wilkes Society has remained true to its original purpose of rehabilitating adult offenders. With the opening of the first men's community correctional facility in Columbia in 1968, the Alston Wilkes Society began providing residential services. As a valuable resource on the road to rehabilitation, this program continues to provide 24-hour supervision, as well as employment, housing and life skills training to offenders making the transition from prison back into the community.
Residents of the adult homes are federal residents only who are required to work, pay rent to defray their living expenses, participate in individual counseling programs and save a percentage of their income to assist them when they leave the facility. In addition to random drug testing, residents are also required to pay taxes on their earnings and provide restitution or support payments to their families. It's all part of a regimen of steps designed to restore character and respect for society.
